Join Pastor Matt Thomas and me in exploring how the ancient church calendar, starting with Advent, plays a crucial role in spiritual development by engaging believers in the journey of Christ and the narrative of salvation. Advent instills lessons of patience and optimism, paving the way for the festive celebration of Christmas that commemorates the incarnation. Subsequent seasons—Lent, Easter, Pentecost—complement each other, fostering contemplation, repentance, happiness, and purpose. This recurring cycle encourages individuals to model their lives on Christ's example, enhancing their faith through deliberate periods that annually foster spiritual enrichment, community, and personal rejuvenation.
Matt Thomas has been the pastor of Solid Rock Church in Springfield, Missouri, for over 13 years. He holds an M.A. in Theological Studies from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and has been an Adjunct Professor at Evangel University in the Theology and Global Church Ministries department for the past decade.
With a heart for rooted tradition and innovation, Matt cares deeply about the local church's role in fostering spiritual formation and missional participation worldwide. He dedicates himself to exploring an ancient, rooted expression of the Christian faith while remaining open to the newness into which the Spirit invites the church.
Matt is married to Nannette and raises two daughters, ages 9 and 6. His journey as a husband and father further fuels his passion for building a thriving, healthy church that impacts individuals, families, and the wider community.
