Sabbatical: Why, When, and How?
Taking a sabbatical can be life-giving—but knowing when, why, and how to step away is not always clear. This webinar explores the purpose of sabbatical for leaders. Join us for a practical and honest conversation with Dr. Gary Grogan, Rev. Jake Krahn, and others
Sabbatical is more than simply taking time off—it is an intentional invitation to rest, renew, and reconnect with God, yourself, and the deeper call beneath your work. Yet many pastors, leaders, caregivers, and helping professionals struggle to know when a sabbatical is needed, how to plan for one, or what makes it truly restorative rather than just an extended vacation. Questions about timing, finances, congregational expectations, guilt, and reentry often make the process feel overwhelming.
In this webinar with sabbatical coach Dr. Gary Grogan, Rev. Jake Krahn, and others, we'll explore the why, when, and how of sabbatical through practical wisdom, personal reflection, and real-life experience.
Together, we’ll consider the signs that it may be time for a deeper season of rest, the spiritual and emotional value of stepping away, and how healthy rhythms of renewal can sustain long-term ministry and leadership. We’ll also discuss practical steps for preparing for a sabbatical, creating meaningful space during it, and returning well afterward.
Whether you are actively considering a sabbatical, supporting someone who is, or simply longing for healthier rhythms in life and ministry, this conversation will offer encouragement, clarity, and tangible next steps toward sustainable living and leadership.
